Super Hi-Growth Koi Feed

I have started feeding my koi with Marubeni Nissin’s Super Hi-Growth Sinking Feed since a week ago. They seem to love the new feed very much. While it is still too early to give a conclusive review on Marubeni, I can already see noticeable differences in some of my koi. They have bulked up in a week!

The following are the ingredients and nutrients breakdown of Marubeni feed. It is indeed a very high protein feed and not recommended for long term or continuous use, some people say.

Ingredients:

74% Fish Meal, Krill Meal and Squid Oil.
16% Weat Flour, Potato Starch, Corn Starch and Tapioka Starch.
10% Fish Oil, Calcium Phosphate, Betaine, Plant gum substance.

Certificate of Analysis:

CRUDE PROTEIN 55.0 % MIN
CRUDE FAT 13.0 % MIN
CRUDE FIBER 2.0 % MIN
CRUDE ASH 16.0 % MIN
CALCIUM 2.5 % MIN
PHOSPHEROUS 2.7 % MIN

There are 29 koi in my pond at the moment with sizes ranging from 28cm to 70cm. I used the following Koi Weight Calculator (from CNYKOI.com) to estimate the total weight based on their length and that worked out to be 65.1 Kilograms in total. Since I am feeding 700 grams a day so the total feed is about 1% of the total weight. I usually feed 300 grams in the morning, 200 grams in the evening after work and 200 grams in the night before sleeping. My plan is to increase this percentage gradually to see how far my pond filtration system can handle because I can see this feed produces more deposit and thicker slime in the settlement chamber.

Some people believe that Nishikigoi is a four-season fish and therefore, the feeding regime should follow what is practiced in Japan. If you are one of those believers, this guide “Feeding Koi to Develop a Strong Champion Body Shape and Best Color Development” may provide you some helpful tips.

michael, there are many ways to boost the growth of japanese koi. You must make sure water condition is good, ample oxygen in the pond and high quality koi food (with high protein). Also the koi must come from high quality genes.
